Support for Children with Dyslexia in Latvia

Projekts Atbalsts bērniem ar disleksiju

English Camps implemented the project Support for Children with Dyslexia in Latvia funded by the Baltic American Partnership Program . We did this because the general public has little knowledge of this problem and information about dyslexia and services in the schools tend to be scattered and difficult to access.

The overall objectives of the project were to help identify and provide better services for children with dyslexia, give support to parents and help the general public understand this problem.

To do this we:

  1. Started a parent support group. This helps parents of children with dyslexia understand the problem and learn to work with the system so that their children get the most benefit from it;
  2. Researched the current situation in Latvia and internationally and wrote a report on what we learned about the system as it is and made recommendations for how it can be improved ;
  3. Made an informative booklet and a website to inform teachers, school administrators, parents and the general public about this problem. We will also provided information in a series of seminars held throughout Latvia.

We have started parentsand expertsworkgroups to work on these objectives. We welcome participation from teachers, reading teachers, parents, children and others. Please contact us for further information or to see if you can help in the continuation of this work.

We continue to work on these problems. For more and deeper information please visit our website at www.disleksija.lv .
